About Today’s Bing Image: Octopus
Bing photo: Octopus in defensive posture, Mayotte, Indian Ocean · “Now you 'sea' me...”
An octopus is a soft-bodied, eight-limbed mollusk belonging to the order Octopoda, which contains about 300 species. Like other cephalopods, octopuses have two eyes and a beaked mouth at the center of their limbs. They can radically deform their shape to squeeze through small gaps and are among the most intelligent invertebrates.
Octopuses inhabit various ocean habitats from coral reefs to abyssal depths. They are notable for their complex nervous system, excellent sight, and diverse behaviors. All octopuses are venomous, though only blue-ringed octopuses are deadly to humans. They appear in mythology and are considered delicacies in many parts of the world.
