About penguins
There are around 18 species of penguin, and almost all live in the Southern Hemisphere, from Antarctica to South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and South America. The Galápagos penguin lives right by the equator. Penguins' wings evolved into stiff flippers, and their dense, waterproof feathers and fat keep them warm.
Emperor penguins are the largest species and breed during the Antarctic winter. The male holds the egg on his feet under a fold of skin called a brood pouch for about two months, without eating, while the female feeds at sea.
